The client approached us to create a product that simplifies crypto tax management while staying visually clean and accessible. They needed a solution that would help users connect multiple wallets, track transactions, and calculate taxes across crypto and NFT assets in a clear, intuitive interface.

They also requested both light and dark themes from the start, as well as a fully responsive mobile version. The goal was to make the platform not just functional, but also pleasant to use.

Before moving into design, we analyzed key competitors in the crypto and tax management space, including platforms like Coinly and CoinTracker. The goal was to identify what worked well and where users faced friction, especially around data presentation, navigation, and mobile usability.

Based on these insights, we defined the product’s structure and interaction logic. This groundwork guided our design concepts and helped ensure that Portal would feel cleaner, faster, and more intuitive than existing tools in the market.

We explored leading crypto tax platforms to understand how they organize complex financial data and support multi-wallet tracking. Most competitors relied heavily on dense tables and technical terminology, which made the experience intimidating for everyday users.

To improve this, we simplified navigation and focused on clear data hierarchy. Key actions like reviewing transactions or checking tax summaries were reduced to a few intuitive steps, creating a smoother and more approachable experience for both experienced traders and casual investors.

We began by developing several design concepts that explored different visual directions – from minimal and technical to expressive and contrast-based. This stage helped us define the product’s tone and visual principles early on.

After aligning with the client on the preferred direction, we expanded the chosen concept into a complete interface system. Next, we designed the mobile version of the platform, ensuring full consistency and usability across screen sizes. The final stage focused on developing a dark theme that balanced aesthetics with accessibility, giving users more flexibility and comfort in different environments.

We started by exploring multiple design directions to find a balance between simplicity and functionality. Each concept tested different approaches to data hierarchy, visual density, and use of color, helping us understand how users could comfortably navigate complex financial information without distraction.

Through iteration and feedback, we refined a clean and modern aesthetic that communicates precision and trust.

Once the visual direction was approved, we moved into full UI design, expanding the concept into a cohesive, scalable system. The focus was on keeping the interface light and structured while presenting complex financial data clearly across dashboards, wallets, and tax reports. Typography, spacing, and color balance were fine-tuned to ensure clarity and consistency throughout the platform.

We then adapted the interface for mobile devices, maintaining the same visual rhythm and usability.

We designed a dark theme that maintained clarity and usability across all screens. Instead of simply inverting colors, we refined contrast, hierarchy, and tone to ensure comfort during long sessions and in low-light conditions. The result is a sleek, modern interface that complements the light mode while preserving consistency and readability.
